If your 2012 Dodge Ram came with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector then all you will need is the controller, # 90195, and the correct wiring harness, # 3021-P.
If the truck just has a factory 4-Way connector then you will need the above 2 items and # 37185 to add a 7-Way. You will need to do a little hardwiring by cutting the blue wire from the end of the 3021-P that plugs into the vehicle, then run a length of wire through the firewall, under the truck to the back of the 7-Way and connect it to the blue wire on 37185.
For wire you can use # 12-1-1 sold in 1 foot increments. To make the 7-Way fully functional you will also need enough wire to go from the black wire on 37185 to the vehicle positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker, # PK54540. When routing wires under the truck and in the engine compartment you will want to avoid areas that can pinch or melt the wire. I have included a link that should help.
If the truck did not come with a trailer connector at all then you will need to first add a 4-Way flat using # 18252. Then you will need 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. You will follow the same instructions in the link mentioned above and I also linked a video showing how the ETBC7 installs on an older model Ram.
