Solution for Side to Side Leveling on Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a small travel trailer with a single Dexter 4400-lb axle. Empty weight is 3285 and GVWR is 5050. Since its a smaller trailer and the heavy kitchen components are all on the right side, that side sits about an inch lower than the left side. This means theres only a small amount of suspension travel before the axle hits the frame on that side, which has happened a few times. I was wondering if SumoSprings TSS-106-40 would make sense to level and provide a bump stop or if theres a better option. My other issue is with squeaking suspension. Is K71-358-00 a good fix for this? If not, what should I look for? Thanks

The SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # TSS-106-40 will definitely help solve your problem. However, it sounds like you don't have a lot of clearance right now. These require a minimum of 7-7/16" between the top of the spring plate and the bottom of the trailer frame for installation.

If you don't have that much clearance, I would consider an over-under conversion kit to move your leaf springs to the top of the axle. This will also help keep the axle from hitting the frame. If your axle measures 2-3/8" in diameter you would need the # K71-384-00 and if it is 3" the # K71-385-00. The correct SumoSpring kit would then be the # TSS-107-40 for overslung axles which require 5-5/16" of clearance.

The # K71-358-00 is one of those things that is always a good idea to add to your trailer. It is possible this will help with the squeaking assuming these are the parts making the sound. Either way, upgrading to wet bolts and the 1/2" shackles is highly recommended to keep your suspension in good working order. I would start by adding these and if the squeaking doesn't go away you might consider new leaf springs.
