Will Timbrens Put Additional Stress on Vehicle Tires that Would Eventually Cause Failure

Question:

Do Timbren bump stops increase load transfer to tires? I experienced a rear tire blow out of an E Load range tire with a 1900 lb slide in camper on a GMC 2500 AT4 with 70 psi in a tire with 25,000 mile wear. Timbrens are in contact with the rear axel when camper is loaded on the bed.

Helpful Expert Reply:

Timbrens provide additional suspension support but that does not mean that more weight is transferred to the tires. If anything less would get transferred. If you imagine hitting a bump that's big enough it would bottom out the suspension of your vehicle the inertia of the weight suddenly stopping would stress the tires harder than having the Timbrens bring that inertia to a slower stop due to the additional progressive support.
