Comparing Curt and etrailer Trailer Hitch Receivers For a 1985 GMC 1 Ton Pickup

Question:

Hi! You have a lot of great info on your site, but wanted to ask a clarifying question. Looking at these two: 13028 e88AR I have an 85 1 ton GMC pickup, and I wanted to install a hitch with minimal drilling. Does one require more than the other for my truck? I really dont want to drill new holes in the frame. Also when it says drilling required, does it mean totally new holes or just enlargement? Thanks for your time.

Both the Curt # 13028 and our etrailer # e88AR receivers are going to require the same installation. We have our receiver manufactured by Curt so you have the same made in the USA quality with the only difference being the finish used. Our etrailer receiver has a matte black finish versus the gloss black on the Curt. Personally I feel the matte black is a better finish and looks better over time.

The installation will require drilling all new holes in your frame. I recommend using 2 Clamps # PTW5100 to help position the receiver on your frame to ensure it is where you want it before drilling your holes.
