7,000 lb Axles or 6,000 lb Axles for a Trailer Weighing 5,700 lbs Unloaded

Question:

I am ordering a fith wheel RV that comes standard with 6000 lb axles. The options I have ordered adds 700 lbs weight, which brings my RV to within 300 lbs of a model that comes standard with 7000 lb axles. Should I install 7000 lb axles on mine?

Expert Reply:

I would recommend the 7,000 axle setup. Once your RV is loaded up and ready to tow you could easily eat up that 300 lbs of capacity you have left. The 7k axles would give you enough capacity that you would not have to worry about exceeding the axle capacity for your trailer.
