Bike Rack for 2 Beach Cruiser Bikes and a 2007 Honda Civic Sedan with Class I Trailer Hitch
Question:
I have a 2007 Honda Civic 4 door sedan with a Curt 1 1/4 inch hitch. What is the best hitch bike rack to carry one mens and one womens beach cruiser bikes?

Expert Reply:
The best type of bike rack for beach cruiser bikes is going to be a platform style rack. There are many that fit in a Class I trailer hitch but because of the weight of most beach cruisers, I recommend going with the Swagman Chinook, # S64683, rated for 45 pounds per bike. The Thule Apex # TH9024XT can support bikes up to 37.5 lbs each, but anything larger would require a platform style rack.
The bike wheels will be held in the wheel cradles and the frame hooks clamp down on the bike frames for a secure connection.
Curt does recommend the use of stabilization strap # 18050 when using the Class I trailer hitch for a bike rack. The strap is designed to take some of the stress off of the hitch.
