Troubleshooting Curt Tri-Flex Brake Controller installed on a 2009 Cheverolet Silverado 1500
Question:
I have installed the Curt Triflex brake controller in my 09 Chevy Silverado 1500 along with universal adapter. The installation went fine and there is power to the controller. The red light does appear when the brakes are touched but thats it. When a trailer is plugged in, the light just stays on instead of recognizing it. I have checked the 7 way on the truck and I do not see any LED test lights so thats a good thing. Could there be a problem other than a wiring issue?

To troubleshoot your Curt Tri-Flex Brake Controller # C24VV, my first recommendation would be to check the brake controller and make sure that it is functioning properly. To do this you will need to use a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 and connect to the blue output wire on the brake controller output. Then step on the brake and make sure that the brake controller is sending signal to your 7-way. Typically, you will want the brake controller to be set to maximum output while testing.
If you do not have signal, then the internal components of the brake controller are malfunctioning, and it will need to be replaced.
If the brake controller is functioning properly, then you will need to check the wiring leading to your 7-way and make sure that it is all in good working order. It is also recommended to check all the connectors and make sure there is no corrosion or signs of damage. Also, check all the grounds and make sure they are installed to an appropriate bare metal surface.
I have provided several helpful articles that will help you troubleshoot your Curt Triflex brake controller.
