Recommended Flat Towing Set Up for a 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

We have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler TJ with aftermarket EAG front bumper and front trailer hitch underneath. I want to flat tow behind Winnebago Aspect Class C - can I remove the front tow hitch not needed and install base plate? What would you recommend for flat tow package?

You will definitely need to remove the front hitch on your 2005 Jeep Wrangler to install a base plate kit. Those two parts mount in the same location. Depending on how low your EAG front bumper sits it may need to be removed or modified too. All of our available baseplate kits are designed around the factory bumper. If your bumper has D-rings you could use them to connect a tow bar if your bumper is rated to be flat towed with. In this case you would need either item # RM-035-1 for 1" D-Rings or if your D-rings are 3/4" wide you will want item # RM-035

To flat tow your 2005 Jeep Wrangler you will need the following parts:

Tow Bar and Safety Chains - Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar item # RM-520 and item # RM-643

Base Plate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms item # RM-521424-5

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267

Supplemental Braking System - Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System item # HM39524

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.
