Advent AC Shuts Off Intermittently

Question:

I have a 15,000 Btu # ACM150 AC I bought about 6-7 months ago. Just started using it but it only stays on for 10 minutes then shuts down. My rig runs on 30A and I see this unit needs 40A to start up. I do have a compasitor installed. So does this unit need more amperage to start?

Since you have a start capacitor, your power should not be a problem; the most likely issue with the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM150 is "short cycling" and there are a couple of reasons why that might happen. Most often, the issue is with the thermostat reading the temperature incorrectly, maybe due to air blowing at the thermostat. When the thermostat senses cold air, it will turn on and off quickly - short cycling. If you can re-direct the air to not blow right on or near the thermostat that may resolve the issue.

Also try running just the fan as this can also resolve the issue. Another problem could be a frozen coil, which often occurs when it is particularly humid, and combined with the cold it causes freezing; this can also often be resolved by running just the fan.

Apart from these things, it could be a faulty unit or thermostat, though to verify this you would need a certified technician to come and look at the unit.
