Can Gen-Y Boss Shank Be Used For Towing With Weight Distribution Head

Question:

Hello, I wanted to purchase the Gen-Y The Boss Distribution since I will be purchasing a 24 foot USA Cargo Trailer. I do not have the trailer yet which makes it much more difficult, I wanted to get what I can before hand and I will be driving the trailer about 700 miles after I pick it up. The trailer will be triple axle 7K axles as I do plan to put some weight in it. I wanted to make sure I had the correct parts. Currently my hitch is rated at Class 5. Is it possible to just have the head for the weight distribution and put the proper system together later and can you also run the weight distribution system without the bars just to get the appropriate weight to get the correct tongue weight. Thank you for any assistance.

You can definitely use a Gen-Y Boss Shank like part # 325-GH-1202 rated for 16K towing, and a weight distribution head like part # RP58167 and 2-5/16" ball like part # C40030 you'll be able to get the trailer home and then once you're able to load some cargo and get all the tongue weight stuff figured out pick the rest of the system.

You mentioned your trailer is a triple axle but from the information I saw from USA Cargo it looks like their 24' trailers and only tandem axle which is a good thing as your weight range would fall in line with the Gen-Y Boss Shank I mentioned above.

I'm attaching some review videos for you to check out. Let me know what your loaded trailer and tongue weight specs are once you've had a chance to get some cargo loaded up. Be sure your tongue weight is 10-15% the weight of your loaded trailer for best towing results.
