Can Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter Be Used for Cargo Carrier While Flat Towing

Question:

Hello etrailer, I have a 2017 Fleetwood Pace Arrow motorhome and my hitch weights are 10,000 lb towing and 1,000 tongue weight. I currently flat tow a 2006 Chevy HHR and I would like to add a cargo rack. Can I use the Roadmaster dual hitch Item # RM-077-6, to connect both units? The cargo rack will holding roughly 300lbs. Also if additional clearance is needed, is it possible to add an extension to the tow bar? Thanks for your help!

Yes, the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-6 is designed with this exact type of situation in mind!

If you don't already have a cargo carrier I recommend using the Flint Hill Goods # FHG27ZR as it has an aluminum construction which means it does a great job at resisting rust and corrosion plus it's also very lightweight (it only weighs in at 29 lbs).

You won't want to add an extension to this adapter or the tow bar as that would then add too many moving parts and make the setup dangerous. If you're thinking the cargo carrier is going to come into contact with your vehicle then you might consider using something like the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount # 325-GH-305 which would place the cargo carrier about 10" higher than the tow bar if you use it in the rise position.

We have a handful of the Gen-Y replacement shanks so if this specific one doesn't work best just let me know and I can see if we have something else that better suits your towing needs.
