What PSI to Run When Switching to ST235/85R16 Load Range G Trailer Tires

Question:

I am replacing the ST235/80R16 Einch max. psi is 80 lb rated tires on my 5th wheel with Ginch rated tires. max psi is 110lbs The max PSI for the new ST235/85R16 Ginch rated tire is 110 lbs. with a max. load capacity of 4400 lbs. per tire. My actural max load per tire is 2800 Lbs. I think 110 psi will be too much for the load. I am thiniking that 95 psi will be good. What psi do you recommend? Thank you,

The tire I recommend you go with in the size and load range you mentioned is the Provider ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire part # TTWPRG235R16 which has an 81 mph speed rating. This is an excellent heavy duty tire option that comes with a two year warranty. It has a max fill psi of 110 psi. In regards to what we recommend filling trailer tires to, it's always the max psi listed on the sidewall while cold. The reason for this is simple, that's what the tire manufacturer recommend so we must follow suite with this blanket statement as well.

There are many different factors that go into tire pressure and there isn't really one pressure that works perfect for every trailer. If the tires are overinflated then that will lead to a rough ride but if they don't have enough air that could lead to heat buildup and increase the chance for a blowout. I cannot recommend this but playing with the tire pressure yourself, doing your own testing is going to allow you to find out what psi works for you best i.e. adequate support but a smooth ride. I highly recommend adding a TMPS to give you real time data on what the tires are doing and better peace of mind while towing like alters for loss of pressure or heat buildup which could create a blowout. I recommend the TireMinder A1AS TPMS for RVs and Trailers w/ Signal Booster part # TM49FR which I did a review on that you can see below.
