Does Trailer Need to be Jacked Up to Measure Leaf Spring for Replacement

Question:

Do I need to jack the trailer up first to measure the leaf spring length? I am getting 26 with my 14 aluminum boat on the trailer. Seems like I need the 24.5 spring. I do not see a 26 spring on your site, will the length of the spring increase by 1.5 by having the weight of the boat and trailer on the spring? Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:

Jacking up the trailer frame to get the load off of the leaf spring is needed to get accurate dimension of spring for replacement. It would seem unlikely that your spring would be 24.5 inches if when there's a load it's 26 inch but you never really know. You will also need to know the axle capacity of your trailer as well.
