What Inner Diameter Does Grease Seal for 5,200 lb Trailer Axle Hub Have

Question:

I saw etrailer QandA wrote and told a customer that For example, for a 5200-lb rated axle we offer Dexter hub/drum assembly # 8-201-5UC3 which fits on spindles that have inner bearing # 25580 that you referenced and outer bearing # LM67048. This hub takes grease seal # RG06-090. I was told from etrailer the grease seal to use was the 00-1036-00 for my 25580 inner bearing and my LM67048 so what gives???? the RG06-090 IDis 2.125inch and the 10-36 IDis 2.25. So which is the correct seal for my above hubs/bearings???? Thank You,

Expert Reply:

For trailer axles that have a capacity of between 5,200 and 7,000 lbs the grease seal requirement can be one of two options without any real rhyme or reason which is pretty frustrating. Sometimes the spindle will require the smaller diameter and other times it's the larger diameter. To verify what you'd need will require you to measure the spindle on your trailer or get the bearing number out of the hub currently.
