Sealing Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent # FV807350 When Installing on a Trailer With PVC Roof

Question:

I saw this answer in your Q/A section: Butyl tape like # 344270341411-1 is recommended for making sure you get a leak free install of your new Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent # FV807350, but it can be done with just the lap sealant you have. You will just need to make sure you apply it liberally between the roof and vent, making sure to get some in the holes so water does not get in past the screws. I included a video of the # FV807350 for you to take a look at. expert reply by: Samuel C However, the installation guide page 5 says to use a double bead of compatible sealant, and no putty tape, butyl or gaskets are to be used with clamp fans. So do I use butyl tape or not? I have a PVC roof on my trailer. If not butyl tape, what is the best compatibleinch sealant to use?

I do see in the installation instructions where they specify to use a double bead of a compatible sealant and not putty/butyl tape when using the clamp on method. If you are attaching the Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent # FV807350 with the clamp on method to a roof less than 4" thick this is an appropriate method to seal the fan. For this I recommend using Non-Sag Sealant # 344270341437-1. We also have the Self-Leveling Sealant # 34427034145-1 to seal up any openings after it is clamped in place and prevent water from getting into your roof.

Otherwise we have the Roof Vent Installation Kit # 344270KITW which can be used if your roof is over 4" thick and you will be mounting the vent to the roof with screws. The kit includes self leveling sealant, butyl tape and screws for mounting to your roof.
