Replacement Wishbone Style Wiring Harness For Travel Trailer
Question:
I bought a 4-wire 4-pin connector to replace the damaged connector on my trailer side. I later realized that my trailer side was actually 5 wire 2 brown wires, I believe this is called wishbone style?. I thought I could splice those 2 brown wires together when I connect to my new 4-pin connector, but lights are not operating correctly. Should this be working or do I need to install a 4-pin connector on the trailer side with 5 wires? Current issues with lights: 1. Right tail brake light is on when only running lights no brake on vehicle. 2. Right tail brake is solid when right blinker and lights on vehicle. 3. Left running light is on when right blinker is on vehicle no running lights turned on. Would this point to faulty wiring on the trailer, or my error with splicing the 2 brown wires together? My vehicle side wiring is 4-pin, 4-wire.

With you splicing the brown wire, on your current wiring harness on your trailer the harness it should work properly. It sounds that you have a bad ground or some damaged wiring somewhere along the trailer. I recommend installing the 35 Ft 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness # A35W42B which will provide you with the wishbone style harness. This harness will come with two tail light wires split for simple wiring. This will allow you to run wires separately down each side of the trailer to the tail lights without needing a jumper wire.
I linked an installation video below on the wiring harness being installed. If you have any further questions please feel free to reach back out to me anytime and I would be more than happy to further assist you.
