The best-case scenario would be if you could find an existing grommet that passes through the firewall. There will be one somewhere on the firewall that allows the main wiring harness to pass from the engine compartment to the passenger cab. When you find an existing grommet, use a small knife to cut or poke a small slit in the rubber, being careful not to nick any wiring running nearby. If you cannot find a grommet on the firewall, look under the truck, on the floor pan. If you find a grommet there, you can pass the wire from underneath, into the cab, under the carpet to the dash area. If you remove the side sill plate, the carpet can usually be pulled back pretty easily to access the grommet
If you cannot find a grommet either on the firewall or on the floor pan, you will need to drill a hole through the firewall to pass the wire through. I highly recommend using a grommet like part # SWC8055 to protect the wire. Before drilling, be sure to be aware what is on the other side of the firewall where you are drilling, so you do not drill into anything and damage it.
Be sure to use some silicone sealant to seal around the wire where it passes through the grommet, to exclude moisture and any exhaust gasses from the passenger compartment.
