Wiring a Trailer Brake Controller on a Coachmen Class C Motorhome on Chevy Express Van Chassis
Question:
Hello, I purchased a new 2023 Coachmen Class C motorhome built on a Chevrolet Express 3500 chassis. The chassis built by Navistar is a 2022 model year. It has the new 6.6L gas engine. I want to connect my Hopkins break controller but i dont know what the 5 wire bundle under the drivers side dash ID is. The wiring loom was taped up just like the standard 4 wire loom GM puts in the Chevy Express. I had a 2012 Express 3500 and it had the 4 wire loom which was easy to figure out. There is a platform hitch with the 7 pin that is wired to somewhere but the color code is no where near the same as what is under the dash left of the brake pedal. I included pictures of what I see. I asked General RV where i purchased the motorhome from and also asked Coachmen. Both said they didnt know but were looking into it.

The only information we have for the trailer brake controller plug location on a Chevy Express Van Chassis is that the wiring can sometimes be found taped and tucked under the driver side floor mat up towards the firewall. If it's not located here you'll need to do some searching around under the dash up near the firewall. If you do find a plug or bundle of wires you'll want to be sure to test them with a test light to ensure they have the correct functions prior to use. The plug usually consists of a bundle of four wires.
It's also possible the vehicle does not have an under dash plug for a trailer brake controller even if it has a factory seven way trailer connector. In which case you'd need to hardwire a brake controller completely using a kit like the Wiring Kit for 2, 4, 6, and 8 Brake Electric Trailer Brake Controllers part # 5506. This will then allow you to install a trailer brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 which is what I recommend.
