Can you tow a 1997 ford ranger w/ manual tranny with all wheels on the ground without extra devices?

If you check page # 244 of your owners manual, you can see the complete run-down of the recommended flat towing procedures. The procedure will differ depending on whether your truck is a 4x4 or 4x2 model. A two wheel drive model can be flat towed in neutral with no distance restrictions. Ford recommends keeping your speed at 55mph or lower. The procedure for 4x4 vehicles might be more complicated depending on the transfer case used. You might have to remove the rear driveshaft, so please check the owners manual for additional information.
