Troubleshooting Trailer Taillight Not Functioning with 2003 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I have an 03 Silverado that has a problem on the left turn signal only, when connected to my travel trailer which was purchased from new 3 years ago. When no trailer is connected left, right, and hazard work fine, when trailer connected I only sometimes have a left signal, usually after turning the signal stork on and off several times. If I use hazard I again lose left signal and occasionally if I put the left signal and brake the signal light stays on not flashing. This is happening on both truck and trailer at the same time. The truck has just been in the shop to tidy the wiring to the plug and also replace the plug and get a better ground, because when I had the hazard lights only on the rear clearance lights on the trailer glowed dimly. Hope you can help. Its driving me nuts and costing.

Have you had the chance to try a different trailer? It sounds like the trailer wiring is drawing too much amperage which is causing some of the circuits to not function. Typically the easiest way to fix this is to switch to LED trailer taillights since they draw a fraction of the amperage. I attached a link to a page that has all of the LED trailer taillights we offer as well.
