Correct Trailer Hitch Fitment for 2020 Tesla Model Y

Question:

I have a Tesla Model Y made in 2020. Does the hitch fit? Also, my Tesla has the factory hitch installed, and I am looking to replace it, just for the increased tongue weight this hitch can handle. Will the replacement be a non-issue or is there something I need to be aware of? Thank you so much!

The correct trailer hitch for your 2020 Tesla Model Y is the EcoHitch Invisi Trailer Hitch Receiver # EH39FR. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT58MR you're looking at fits the 2021 and newer models. I did notice in the Draw-Tite instructions that it mentions fitting a 2020 model but when I reached out to my contact they said it's a misprint that they will be fixing.

The EcoHitch has a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs and a towing weight capacity of 3,500 lbs which seem to match up with the OEM hitch specs so there really won't be a benefit for installing this hitch instead.

It is worth noting that if the EcoHitch did have the higher 525 lb tongue weight that the Draw-Tite does, if your Model Y itself is only rated for 350 lbs then the higher tongue weight rating would be irrelevant since you're always supposed to stay within the weight capacities of your lowest rated component.

Attached is an installation video of the EcoHitch for you to check out. If you ever need to replace the OEM hitch then the EcoHitch is a solid choice for you. I was unable to find installation instructions for the OEM Tesla hitch so I don't know what you'd be expecting taking it off but if it installs in the same manner as the EcoHitch I doubt you'll have any issues.
