Butt Connectors For 4-Way on 2003 GMC Yukon

Question:

i have a 4-Pole flat trailer connector on my 2003 gmc yukon that is connected via vampire clamps or Quick Splices - Self-Stripping Connectors. i suspect it may be causing a short in my radio and want to re-wire it better. the car actually came with a tow mode the button you press on transmission gear or for tow mode and a trailer light on the gauges, but no factory installed tow hitch or tow wiring port that i can see. how can i rewire my 4 pole trailer connector with rear butt connectors, or do you suspect there might be a plug somewhere since i have tow mode? thank you!

Expert Reply:

Your 2003 GMC Yukon will not have a plug for a trailer connector unless it came with a factory 7-way. Since you are using a splice-in 4-way, that would indicate you do not have a plug. As for how you can rewire your current 4-way, you need to identify the turn and tail lights on your Yukon using a circuit tester like the Cordless Circuit Tester # PTW2979.

Then just remove the quick splices and use Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05744-5.
