Is 4,800 lb Weight Rating of Demco Kar Kaddy Tow Dolly for Front of Vehicle or the Whole Vehicle

Question:

I am looking to purchase this tow dolly but want to know if the 4800lb limit applies to the entire GVWR of the vehicle on the dolly even though the dolly is only supporting half the weight of the vehicle or does the dolly have an axle capacity of 4800lbs? I am looking to dolly tow a 2023 GMC Acadia FWD. My motorhome is a 2022 Entegra Accolade.

Great question!

The 4,800 lb weight rating of the Demco Kar Kaddy SS # DM9713045 means that it can tow vehicles that weigh up to 4,800 lbs. Anything over that will be too much for the tow dolly and would require a trailer to tow.

The good news is that your 2023 GMC Acadia only has a curb weight of 3,300 lbs - 4,200 lbs depending on the model. Curb weight is the weight of the vehicle as if you were driving it off the dealership lot so even if you fill up to a full tank a gas you won't be exceeding the weight rating of the Kar Kaddy SS.

If the weight of your Acadia was to exceed the 4,800 lb weight rating then you would need to look into a trailer to tow the vehicle on.
