Recommended Ball Mount for a Subaru Ascent

Question:

What I need is a Ball Mount with an 8 inch drop. I love the idea of a lock pin. We are buying a Safari Condi Alto 1723 trailer which for the ascent requires about an 8 inch drop (the top of the ball must be about 18 1/2 inch off the ground). Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I have a couple of options for you depending on the height of your Subaru Ascent's receiver. If the top of your hitch ball needs to be at 18-1/2" for your travel trailer then you will need a ball mount with rise not drop.

From what I can tell the receiver height is anywhere from 12" - 13" above the ground. I have listed a couple of ball mounts below that will get you to the right height. Both of them have plenty of capacity for your Safari Condi Alto 1723 trailer. You will want to be within 3" of your coupler so don't get too hung up on hitting 18-1/2" exactly.

For a 5" rise you will want the Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches item # C45336.

For a 6-3/4" rise you will want the Draw-Tite Ball Mount item # 2793. Coincidentally this ball mount has an 8" drop too.

You will want to use the 2" Hitch Ball item # A-90.

Since you are a fan of the locking pin then I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches item # e98880. This will secure your ball mount from theft.
