How to Use Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack with 1-1/4" Hitch on Subaru Crosstrek
Question:
My Crosstrek has a 1-1/4 hitch but my Thule T2 Pro XTR is a 2. What product would I need to make it work?

Helpful Expert Reply:
In order for your Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack # TH83JV to fit with your 1-1/4" hitch receiver you'll need an adapter like the Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Hitch # e43YR.
The only issues with this solution are that using an adapter like this reduces the weight capacity of your hitch by 50% plus Thule doesn't recommend using an adapter like this for this bike rack. The only way they will be okay with the T2 Pro XTR being used with a 1-1/4" receiver is if the rack has the 1-1/4" shank - but the only way to accomplish this is by using the Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack # TH23JV that comes with the 1-14" shank.
So you can use the adapter but if anything happens to the rack it likely wouldn't be covered under warranty. My recommendation is to sell the one that you have so you can put those funds towards the one with the 1-1/4" hitch for a more secure connection. If you need a rack that is able to work with 1-1/4" and 2" hitches then you might like the Hollywood Racks TRS Bike Rack # HR3000 instead because it comes with it's own adapter, it can handle up to 50 lb bikes with 4.5" tires, and you can add bike and rack locks with the kit # HRLHPTC .
