How to Wire a Hopkins Agility in a 1985 Chevy Silverado

Question:

Hello! Ill try to keep my message brief I can be wordy. Im looking to install the Hopkins HM47295 in my 1985 Chevy Silverado. I have a 7 pin connector in the rear at my hitch, but there is no brake control. When I install the Hopkins, will I have to run a wire to the back of the truck to the part of the 7 pin that controls the brakes? Im guessing then that the others would be power and ground. Any help you can provide would be great. Thanks in advance~ Matt

To install the Hopkins Agility Brake Controller # HM47295 that you referenced the blue wire will be run to the brake output circuit of your 7-way, the white wire will be run to the negative side of your vehicle battery, the black wire will run through a 30 amp circuit breaker to the positive side of your battery and the red wire will be run to the stoplight circuit. This circuit is typically found near the brake pedal, you will want to find a wire that only sees voltage when the brakes are applied.

I attached an FAQ article on installing a brake controller from scratch for you to check out also.
