Correct Stealth Hitches Towing Kit for Lowered 2013 BMW X1
Question:
I can never do anything easy. Im planning to lower my 2013 X1 approx 1.5. Is the only difference between the M3 SH73VR and the X1 SH23VR hitches the 2 inch in ball height same extension from the back of the vehicle? If so, can I use the M3 ball mount version on my lowered X1? How critical is the 18 inch ball height for safe towing? That is, what is the tolerance and is it better to be 1.5 inch too low or .5 inch too high? Thanks for your thoughts.

Unless lowering the vehicle by 1-1/2" blocks part of the hitch installation I see no issues using the hitch designed for your 2013 BMW X1.
The Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit # SH23VR for your 2013 BMW X1 looks like the mounting brackets are more at a 90-degree angle whereas the Stealth Hitches Kit # SH73VR for a 2013 BMW M3 looks like the mounting brackets are at more of a 45-degreee-ish angle, and then you have the slightly more aggressive hitch ball connection with the hitch for the M3.
I only recommend using the Stealth Hitches Kit # SH23VR that was designed specifically for your X1. The 18" ball height is more or less a recommendation as each trailer will have a different height coupler. Stealth Hitches felt like an 18" hitch ball height worked with most trailers on the market which is why they shot for that mark. It could be that having a slightly lower hitch ball will work out better for your application.
