How To Secure Fishing Kayak On Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer

Question:

Tried to send this question and your site went down. So…hoping we are not duplicating the email. We purchased a Yakima 78” rack and roll from you. It is now assembled and ready to use. We have an Old Town Autopilot 120 which weighs about 140lbs when rigged. We have 2 questions we hope you will answer. 1- can we back the trailer into the water at the boat ramp to launch and retrieve the kayak? 2- is the recommended way to travel with the kayak to just have the kayak on the crossbars or do we need some kind of bunks?

In order to secure a kayak to the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer part # Y08107 you'll need some sort of carrier to help hold it in place, I recommend the Lockrack Adjustable XL Watersport Carrier part # LR54FR since it has locks for security and a 175 lb weight capacity which is ideal for larger fishing kayaks.

In regards to backing the trailer into water, it's not designed for this but as it's made of aluminum you should be fine so long as you unplug the electrical connector. The height of the deck however could prove to make this ineffective.
