Parts Needed to Add 7-Way to 2004 Ford F-150 With No Pre-Existing Wiring
Question:
I own a 2004 F150 XL. I need to install a 7 pin vehicle connector to pull my new trailer. The truck does not have a factory 4 pin connector. Can you recommend a connector that will allow all lighting and trailer brakes?

In order to add a 7-way to your 2004 Ford F-150 you will need to start by adding a 4-way. Since there are no custom wiring kits for your truck you will need to add a universal 4-way like the # C59236
. This will power your trailer's signal lights.
Once this is installed you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This kit comes with the adapter, wiring, and everything else you need to upgrade your 4-way to a 7-way. The adapter also maintains the 4-way connection so you will be able to use both depending on your towing needs. In addition to the signal lights this will also give you 12V power and the brake output for your trailer brakes.
If you don't already have a brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED52VR. The main unit mounts in an out of sight location so only the control knob will be visible in the cab of your truck. This means you won't have a brake controller taking up additional space. The knob controls the brake power and also acts as the manual override.
