Troubleshooting Trailer Sway While Towing With A 2006 Toyota Camry

Question:

Again I have a 2006 Camry with hitch. Im pulling a small Scamp 13 trailer. Do have anything that would stabilize the swaying or any other products to make life easier. It also has one of those jacks with the foot on the base. I have a wheel you can use I guess to shift the trailer around. At what point do you use the wheel? Is it a more permanent feature. Its a pain backing it up. New to this.. Thanks.

Since you are towing with a Toyota Camry you won't be able to use a weight distribution hitch with sway control and will only be able to adjust the weight inside of the trailer to help prevent sway. I've attached some articles below to help with this, but to be honest you need a larger vehicle like an SUV or truck to properly tow your camper.

That being said you can help mitigate some of the sway by using a friction sway control bar like the Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200 but I still recommend a larger vehicle. This will require your ball mount to have a sway control tab like the # D320 has. The # 17200 comes with this tab but you have to weld it to your current ball mount. If you go with the # D320 then you could use the # EH68C-C for a 2" hitch ball.

As for the wheel, most people use it if they need to push the trailer around but will typically keep just a standard foot on it prevent it from rolling around when it's parked and in use.
