Solution for 72" Long 7,000 Pound Trailer Axle
Question:
I have an custom application for an axle like this were the hub face to face distance would need to be about 72. Can a customer such as myself cut, shorten, and weld the axle tube to suit applications like this?

The Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # 8327834-EB is not something you should attempt to customize yourself. Axle work like what you are describing should be done by an axle shop that has the proper tools to make sure it is correctly aligned and safe.
Instead, I recommend using the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # TASR7KS01. This system fits any trailer width and also replaces/upgrades the suspension for the trailer. For hubs you could use the # 42866UC3-EZ and for brakes the # AKEBRK-6.
