Is a Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Needed for a 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 with 6-1/2' Bed

Question:

Are any short bed trucks configured so that a sliding hitch is not necessary? I have been told that a GMC Denali 1 ton rear axel is positioned rearward so that a sliding hitch is not necessary. Is this true?

In some cases, it is possible that you can tow a fifth wheel trailer using a fixed hitch on a short bed 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 without cab clearance issues but this largely comes down to the trailer so it's best to measure beforehand. If you need help measuring, I have attached a formula below for you.

(A + B) - C = Clearance

A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab
B = Length of pin box past trailer nose
C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)
