When it comes to installing The CargoSmart Anti-Rattle D-Ring Tie-Down Anchor - Bolt On - 1/2 inch x 3-1/4 inch - 3,666 pounds # 3486509 into your aluminum trailer you can.
Aluminum is a soft metal and therefore a standard HSS drill bit will be able to drill into it. However because of the low melting point of aluminum a better choice would be to use a cobalt drill bit. The cobalt drill bit will dissipate heat quicker and ultimately assist in reducing heat build up.
The CargoSmart D-Rings have a maximum load (break strength) of 11,000 pounds, and has a safe working load limit (WLL) of 3,666 pounds. The D-Rings rotate 180 degrees so you can attach your rope, strap or bungee from multiple angles.
