Recommended Occasional-Use Snow Chains for 2003 F150 and 1993 Plymouth Voyager

Question:

2 questions please. 2003 F150 4 wheel drive 265/70 R17. Must all 4 tires have chains? 1993 Plym Voyager mini van front wheel drive. P195/70R 14. Can I install chains on the fronts and if so what part number? Both chains on both vehs' will be for emergency piece of mind only. I do however use a snowplow on the F150 for own personal driveway. Thanks

Tire chains should be placed on the primary drive wheels. In the case of your F-150 that would be the rear tires, and on your mini van that would be the front tires. For 4X4 or AWD vehicles you can optionally use chains of the other tires for increased traction, braking, and steering if you feel it is neccessary.

For your F-150 with 265/70-17 tires, I recommend the Titan Chain # TC2828CAM chains with cam tighteners for all four tires. If your owners manual recommends Class-S chains, then the Titan Chain # TC2324 chains which feature a diamond pattern for improved cornering and braking.

For your van with P195/70-14 tires I recommend Class-S chains since these will be on rotating steering wheels. You can use Konig # TH01221080 low profile chains, again with diamond patterning.

Before purchasing snow chains, be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual and abide by any advice provided regarding snow chain usage. I have linked you to our snow chain FAQ article, which you might find helpful.
