Replacement Brake Away Cable For Frayed Trailer Breakaway Cable
Question:
I noticed after my last trip a frayed spot in my breakaway cable. It seems excessively long in fact I have a loop tide in it to keep it from dragging. If I cut the loop out and pull the cable through to make a new loop on the end for the carabiner would that be okay? As long as its still slightly longer than the safety chains? My other option Im seriously thinking of is getting a coiled breakaway cable. I measured from the pull pin in my breakaway controller to the end of the safety chain and it is approximately 34 in. Should I a four or six foot coil breakaway cable as those are the only two sizes I see available anywhere? Thank you

You can trim your current Breakaway Cable # HM20012 and fasten a new loop as long as you ensure it is long enough to not activate the brakes when you are turning your trailer. You will need to ensure that the repair is strong enough and that the remaining portion of the cable is still in good condition.
I recommend replacing the cable with either the Fastway Zip Coiled Trailer Breakaway Cable # FA80-01-2140 or replacing the entire switch with the Fastway Zip Trailer Breakaway Switch with Coiled Cable # FA80-00-2040. Test your current switch to ensure the switch functions properly and the pin can be removed and reinserted without issue.
