Replacement Stinger/Shank and Servicing Inner Arms for for Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar

Question:

Jon G, I noticed that the Roadmaster Sterling tow bar, whose stinger is bent also has become difficult to move the arms in and out and when I sprayed them with WD-40 a black kind of film covers the shafts, like some rubber component inside the arms is coming apart. If I buy the complete repair kit that you sell, can I replace the inner components of the arms and get this old tow bar to be like new again? I don’t understand exactly what I might need as there are photos of different parts shown on your web site, such as split bushings, bolts and nuts and rubber bushings. Could you let me know what I need to get? Thank you,

Yes, the Replacement Roadmaster Sterling Towbar Shank Assembly # 910019-40 is a fit for all of the Roadmaster Sterling models. The current one they have active is the 8K # RM-576 but this same shank/stinger was used on the following discontinued models as well:

RM-575
RM-585
RM-586

The discontinued ones were all rated for 6K like your tow bar is.

I'd be more than happy to help out! Since your serial number is 20167 you'll need the Inner Arm Bushing Kit for Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bars # RM-910003-40. Be sure to clean off the arms as best you can and avoid using WD-40 as a lubricant as that will attract dirt and dust which will eventually hurt the operation as you've found. Instead you need to use the Roadmaster LubeMaster Dry Silicone Spray # RM-747 which Roadmaster designed for this application. You'll also want to refer to the "Care and Cleaning" section of your manual to help prolong the life of your tow bar. I'm attaching a cutout of this section for you to check out.
