Parts Needed For Trailer Towing With a 2016 Honda Civic Sedan
Question:
I have a 2016 Honda Civic ex. I want to tow a quad with the trailer, I believe total weight is 870 pounds. Can I tow that much weight if I get a trailer hitch from this website. Also I’m concerned about the tongue weight from the weight, like how do you calculate it, also how much tongue weight would that be

In looking at your owners manual for your 2016 Honda Civic it is a bit confusing on its trailer towing ability. It does mention that trailer towing will void your warranties but it also lists including trailer tongue weight into your maximum cargo weight rating. If you feel that you want to tow with your Civic I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11604 as it is the easiest to install. You will not have to remove your rear bumper and fascia to install this receiver. The hitch itself is rated for up to 200lbs of tongue weight and up to 2,000lbs of trailer weight. As your Civic is not rated by the manufacturer for towing you should only tow what you feel comfortable towing and do not exceed manufacturer specs from Curt.
Curt recommends the Curt Class II Euro Style Drawbar with 1-7/8" Ball # C45571 or Curt Class II Euro Style Drawbar with 2" Ball # C45572 be used with the Curt Hitch Pin and Clip for 1-1/4" Hitches # F-4.
The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118686 will give you a 4-way flat connector for connecting to your trailer. This will control the lights on the trailer.
We do have the Detail K2 Mighty Multi A-Frame Utility Trailer # K2MMT5X7 that weighs only 451lbs but can haul up to 1,640lbs. When loading a quad you want to try and position it so 10-15% of the trailer weight is on the quad. As an example you listed 870lbs. You want the tongue weight to be 87-130lbs.
