Towing a Trailer Level that is 19 Inches from Ground to Coupler with 2010 VW Jetta SportsWagen

Question:

I have a VW Jetta Sportwagon. Trailer I will pull class one will be most level with top of towing ball about 19inch above ground. Which of the receiver hitches you sell for that model VW comes closest to that? To match another existing trailer GTW under 2000# I have, I may want to put a 2inch ball on the receiver. Any problem with that?

When it is all said and done with the hitch installed and using the appropriate ball mount, the top of the ball will be between 15 and 20 inches from the ground. I know this is a wide range but because every vehicle is slightly different and the tongue weight of every trailer is different this is the best guesstimate I can come up with.

I arrived at this figure by taking the ground to receiver tube measurement we took when we installed hitch # C11474 on a 2011 Jetta SportWagen. Then I added the rise of the ball mount at 2-1/8 inches, and added the height of the ball (which can vary as well but I went with a conservative 3 inches).

With a Class I trailer hitch you have to use the ball mount recommended by the trailer hitch manufacturer, in this case # 3593 because otherwise it will void the hitch warranty. Class I hitches are given their rating based on the ball mount they are tested with so that is why you cannot use a different one.

You can use a 2 inch ball with this set up by using # 19258. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256. The ball mount comes with a pin and clip.

For trailer wiring use # 118667, which makes installation easy and fast.
