Bike Rack For Ebike With Fenders & Carbon Frame Bike

Question:

Hi, I need to carry a 60 lb step-through e-bike with fenders, a carbon frame MTB, and a couple more ordinary MTBs using a 2 inch hitch on my Toyota Tacoma. I do like the wheel mount racks like the Thule T2, but looking at the pics it is clear that having any front fender will not work. I guess one option I have is to remove the front fender on the ebike. Any other solutions or alternative wheel mount rack designs out there? Another approach I was thinking of was putting some protective helicopter tape on the carbon frame and using a frame mount rack. Thanks for any advice, you guys are great.

Thanks for the kind words, and that's an interesting dilemma you have. I took a look and there is one solution that will allow you to mount an e-bike with fenders as well as a carbon frame bike (and two other bikes) with a rack from Let's Go Aero, along with an add-on for your two other bikes:

- Lets Go Aero V-Lectric FAT PRO Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # LGA77FR

- 2-Bike Add-On for Lets Go Aero V-Lectric Electric Bike Rack # LGA94FR

If you take a look at the accompanying photo a customer sent in, you can see that they are using this rack with a bike that has fenders. The way it works is it has hooks that you place the bikes on by their wheels, and there is a strap that goes around the tires and secures them that way, so there isn't any frame contact.

So that is one option to consider, but if you don't want any contact with your wheels either, then the best thing to do is go with a wheel-mount rack that grasps the bikes completely by the tires and remove the fenders of the ebikes. For that, the best rack, and easiest overall to use is the Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 4 Bikes # TH69TX.
