Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2019 Ram 2500 Short Bed with OEM Prep Package

Question:

We just sold our travel trailer this weekend and now are shopping for our first fifth wheel camper. Since this is a new direction for us I’m seeking a little help on ing a fifth wheel hitch for my truck. I have a 2019 Ram 2500 with the 6’4” bed. Question #1 Do I need a slider? #2 will a sidewinder work ? #3 what is your recommendation for a hitch that provides a smooth quiet ride ? Looking for a reasonably priced option, not the cheapest but not $2K either. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

My preferred choice for your 2019 Ram 2500 with short bed and the OEM Prep Package/Puck System, is the 20K rated B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with a slider, # BWRVK3670. This is set-up for your OEM puck system, it is designed to attach directly to the receivers in your truck bed. The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection and it has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. In addition, this hitch option is completely Made In USA. It is even made from raw materials sourced from the USA and best of all, it meets you price requirement too.

If you purchase a 5th wheel RV with a rotating turret or, decide to install one on your new RV. I recommend the 25K rated, fixed design version of the B&W Companion for your OEM puck system, # BWRVK3600. And, for use with either hitch, if needed, the Pollak 5th Wheel / Gooseneck T-Connector with 7-Pole, # PK11893-11932. This socket plugs into T-connector to provide a 7-pole trailer connector in the truck bed for use with fifth wheels. Connector plugs into OEM wiring harness to allow for a 7-pole connector in the truck bed.

As for a slide hitch or a rotating turret type pin box, such as the Sidewinder you referred to, one is not better than the other. It is two different ways of accomplishing the same goal, providing the needed clearance between RV and truck cab for tight turns. I have linked several help articles below about rotating pin boxes and other information, I hope you find valuable. Happy Camping!
