Can Roof Cargo Box be Installed on Yakima LockNLoad Platform Rack

Question:

I assumed that I could put my Yakima roof box on one side of a lock n load platform, but I see someone already asked this question and was told no. Can you explain why this wont work? Thanks!

The Yakima SkyBox roof cargo boxes have a clamping mechanism designed to fit around standard crossbars and the slats on the Yakima LockNLoad Platform Rack for Crossbars # Y05044-39 are larger than standard crossbars and there is no adapter for any Yakima box to fit into a T-Slot like what you find on the LockNLoad.

If you're willing to swap out your cargo box though you can use a Thule brand like the Thule Force XT XL # TH6358B and then get the T-Track Adapter # TH27PQ so the box can mount to the LockNLoad via the T-Slots on the slats.

Just be mindful that this Thule box weighs in at about 47 lbs and the LockNLoad weighs in at about 43 lbs so you'll be eating up 90 lbs of your roof rack weight capacity with these 2 products.
