If your 2008 Chevy Silverado initially came with the cab and chassis body then you should be able to use the Buyers Products Hitch Plate with Receiver Tube - Chevy/GMC # 3371809065. This is for the 3500 model and measures 17" tall by 62" wide. You'll need to check on the fitment on your end since this is a sort of fabrication for the installation.

The overall dimensions for the Buyers Products Pintle Hitch Plate w/ ICC Bumper for Chevy/GM 3500 Cab and Chassis #3371809035A are 63" wide x 15.5" tall x 3" deep. If you need any other measurements just let me know.

Yes it will. I checked with Buyers Products and the Hitch Plate with Receiver Tube item #3371809065 will fit a 1996 Chevy or GMC 3500HD so long as it is a cab and chassis model.
