Will Rightline 15Cu Ft Rooftop Cargo Bag Fit on a 2012 Ford Edge With a Panoramic Roof

Question:

I have a 2012 Ford Edge with a Panoramic Vista Roof. I was just wanting to make sure this Cargo carrier would work with my vehicle without damaging or scratching the roof. The installation option that I would choose would be the one where the straps go through the interior of the vehicle along the roof. My concerns are if this method is secure to where the cargo carrier will not slide around on the roof. Also, I want to make sure that the straps will not interfere with the doors shutting properly. We will be traveling about 900 miles with this cargo system so I want to make sure using it will not damage my vehicle or cause me to keep stopping to re-secure the straps so the cargo is not sliding. Thank you for your time!g

You have brought up very valid concerns about carrying the Rightline Edge Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S20 that many customers have.

Because you have a panoramic roof, you will want to try and keep as much of the carrier off the panoramic area as possible to avoid possible damage to the glass. The part of the carrier that is on the glass needs to loaded with your lightest cargo possible.

To help avoid scratching your 2012 Ford Edge, I recommend using the Rightline Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad # RL100650. Of course, before you put a cargo bag on a naked roof, you will need to make sure the roof is clean and free of grit, but, by using the protection pad it gives you that extra protection as well. This pad also helps with the cargo bag staying stationery when the car is moving.

Also, since you will be driving 900 miles, chances that you will hit rain are pretty likely. Even though this bag is considered waterproof if you have any cargo that absolutely cannot be in contact with moisture, please put those items in a sealed, plastic bag in the cargo carrier just to be safe.

There are two ways to secure the cargo bag to your roof by either looping it through the vehicle or by using the Rightline Car Clip # RL100600. There are advantage to both methods. By looping the strap through the vehicle you do not incur the cost of the clips. If you use the clips then you do not lose any head room in the vehicle.

As long as you have the straps pulled taut you should not have to stop specifically to readjust or tighten the straps during your trip. When you do stop to fill up, I do recommend just giving the straps a bit of a tug to verify their holding integrity and adjust if need be. The straps should not interfere in any way with the shutting of your door.

I have attached a brief video that covers both the cargo bag and the car clips.
