Cargo Carrier Recommendations for 2011 Honda Pilot

Question:

Hi i just want to ask if this model fhg77zr carrier would fit honda pilot 2011? Ive seen they have mentioned the clearance 4-3/4 inches from the pinhole when its folded, would that be a problem for honda pilot 2011? Is this model is strong enough to hold load from 400-500 lbs for a long drive coast to coast? Ive noticed that the construction of the whole basket is attached to the center alone, is that connection is strong enough if the weight distribution is not even? Is this type is stronger comparing to aluminum? If not stronger what would you suggest?

In many cases, the 4-3/4 inch folded clearance is good, but you will need to measure on your vehicle to make sure. Measure from the hitch pin hole in less than 4-3/4 inches, the # FHG77ZR will have plenty of clearance for your vehicle. The OEM hitch on the Pilot is pretty close to the edge of the bumper.

You will first need to determine the tongue weight capacity of your hitch. This information should be printed on a sticker placed on the hitch. The 80 lb weight of the carrier plus the weight of the cargo placed on it should not exceed the hitch tongue weight capacity.

Although the carrier has a 500 lb capacity, I would not recommend loading it to the maximum for long trips. Leaving some wiggle room is always best. When loading the carrier, you will need to have the weight of the cargo evenly distributed from side to side, placing the heaviest items in the center.
