Replacement Shock for 2020 Jayco Eagle 321RSTS Trailer
Question:
I need clarification about etrailers recommendation for shocks for my fifth wheel. I have a 2020 Jayco Eagle 321RSTS the exact same model that another person has who asked the following question: https://www.etrailer.com/question-519992.html I measure the distance between shock mounts to be 10 to 10-1/4 inches while the trailer is at rest. The recommended Lippert shock is 8-5/8 inches when compressed. However, that does not include the washers and rubber bushings. Once those are added, when the shock is fully compressed, the distance between is about 10-1/4 inches with one rubber bushing and washer on each end so the shock will be fully compressed when the trailer is at rest, and therefore it cannot absorb any shock when traveling. Am I missing something here? It seems like a shorter shock absorber is required so that the shock is at its midpoint of travel when the travel is at rest.

Based on the dimensions you mentioned for a replacement shock the part # LC283271 would be your best option. When it is compressed it measures 7-1/2 inches from inside of the metal washer to metal washer when retracted and 12 inches when extended. You can see these measurements taken in the attached review video. This would give you the amount of travel you'd need for the suspension to function and would do a great job making the ride quality smoother.
