Slipper Spring Recommendation for a Kayak Trailer

Hi there, I had a double Jet Ski trailer that was originally equipped with slipper springs. I recall that they had a nasty rattle from the slipper end, and when I converted the trailer to a utility trailer, I upgraded to a 3500lb axle and 4-leaf closed eye springs, and no more rattle. Now I am going to utilize the old jet Ski trailer axle and build a kayak trailer for 6 kayaks. My question is do you recommend slipper springs or closed eye type. Welding any mounting brackets will not be a problem, and the load of kayaks and equipment will be far less than 500 lbs and the trailer itself wont weigh more than 150 to 200 lbs. with such a light weight, which spring would you suggest? thank you,

All things being equal there really isnt an advantage to going with one over the other, its just that when you get to the heavier capacities you only see the slipper style.

I would recommend either for you, but more importantly you want to pick the spring set that best matches the capacity of what you plan on towing. In that case I would recommend the 2-Leaf Slipper Spring for 1,000-lb Trailer Axles # SP-177275 since it has the closest capacity at 1,000 lbs per axle.

Since your trailer was a Jet Ski trailer most likely it is galvanized steel, so be sure to weld in a well-ventilated area because of the fumes.
