Hydraulic Brake Actuator For Gooseneck Trailer With Hydraulic Drum Brakes

Question:

Hey guys, I am currently in the middle of making a gooseneck service trailer for my farm and I am using an old truck frame with hydraulic drum brakes on the axle. I need a basic hydraulic actuator to run the brakes and since Ive never messed with hydraulic brakes on a trailer I figured I would inquire the professionals. Thanks in advance.

I recommend going with the Dexter DX Series Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Drum Brakes # K71-650 with the break-away kit # 20099.

This actuator is powered by 12v DC, has a maximum output pressure of 1,000PSI and will work great with tandem, single, and triple axle trailers with drum brakes.

Additionally, you're also going to need a brake controller if one isn't already present.

If you have a factory brake controller, you're also going to need # HBA-CAM.

I recommend going with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 with the Replacement Brake Control Plug-In Harness for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite Brake Controller 12" Long # 20127.

This brake controller has an easy to read LCD screen that shows the controller activity, automatically levels, and will automatically adjusts trailer's braking based on deceleration of your tow vehicle.

I'm assuming you already have a 7-way on your truck, however if not, you'll also need to add one with # ETBC7.
