Can Swagman Quad 2+2 Be in Stored Position and Clear Rear Hatch on 2017 Toyota Highlander
Question:
I have a 2017 Toyota HIghlander and am thinking of purchasing the Swagman Quad 2+2. We will most likely be leaving the rack on the vehicle all summer and most always in the 2 bike configuration. My wife had a question about being able to open the rear door of the vehicle when the rack is folded in the up position with only the 2 bike portion attached. Will there be enough clearance to to open the back hatch without lowering the rack to the flat position every time we need to access the back of the vehicle? If the answer is no, would a rack with the tilt down feature be more convenient? Which brand and model would you recommend that is built as well as the Swagman? The Thule is a lot more expensive and Im not sure if it is worth the extra $XX.

The Swagman Quad 2+2 Bike Rack # S64FR is a solid choice for a bike rack and I love that it has the 2 bike configuration so it's easier to load and operate like how you guys are planning on using it.
You will need to lower the trays to that flat position to open up the rear hatch on your 2017 Toyota Highlander - this is the case for pretty much every bike rack on the market. The only exceptions would possibly be some of the 1-bike racks.
The Thule T2 Pro X # TH26ZE is a much nicer rack when it comes to quality and ease of use so your comparison is really price-point compared to ease of use. Another bigger difference between the Quad 2+2 and the T2 Pro X is that the Quad uses frame hooks while the T2 uses wheel hooks. I've attached review videos for both bike racks for you to check out and see these differences.
