Expert Reply:

The load range C and D indicate how many ply layers the tire is constructed of. A load range c tire like the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234 has 6 layers. These layers give the tire a weight rating of 1,925lbs at 60psi. The load range D version of the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235 has 8 layers. The additional layers give it a weight rating of 2,200lbs at 75psi. The additional layers allow for more weight and higher PSI as it makes the tire stronger.

While you will see different weight ratings with different size tire the load range indicators are specific to the layers in the tire.

Load Range B - 4 Layers
Load Range C - 6 Layers
Load Range D - 8 Layers
Load Range E - 10 Layers
Load Range F - 12 Layers
