Will Saris Bones Trunk Bike Rack Fit a 2012 Mazda 3 Hatchback

Question:

Im taking a very long distance road trip from CA to Ohio and Im considering using the Bones 2 to carry our bikes. Id like to minimize as much swaying as possible and any rubbing between the bikes and our car. Does it make sense to use the Protect o Pads and the Hatch Huggers instead of the standard clips? Ive borrowed a Saris rack before and always felt like the top straps did not sit very flush because of how the hatch closes. Thanks for any advice!

The Saris Bones 2 Bike Rack # SA805BL is a very popular option that fits your 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback as long as you don't have the rear spoiler. If you do have the spoiler then you need the Saris Bones EX 2 Bike Rack # SAR83FR instead.

These have anti-sway straps but these essentially just limit the amount of bike movement so to avoid bike to vehicle and bike to bike contact you'll want to use the Protect-O-Pads # SA2060. I also recommend using the Stabilizer Straps # SA3033 to help keep your front wheels in line with your bike frame.

The hatch huggers are neither encouraged or discouraged so if you feel more secure using them then go for it! These are available as an anchor that the standard hooks fit into as part # SAR88MR or as a whole anchor and strap unit as part # SA3035.

Attached are some videos for you to check out.
